Homelessness & Chaos Theory
Most people know I often nerd out about chaos theory. But it turns out I'm not alone!
The other day I gave a presentation to Rotary International. Predictably I had prepped for 10 minutes but found out at the last minute I should have planned for 40. Not to worry, like any delinquent uber-nerd, I thought fast on my feet and borrowed slides from an old chaos theory lecture.
I've thought for a long time that homelessness was a complex system, and we needed to use chaos and complexity theory to build adequate solutions. In fact, the Empulse app was designed to have a butterfly effect — because in a complex system, a very small change can produce quantum results.
I was pretty sure I'd get booed off the stage but the Cosmopolitan Rotary Club loved the concept and asked me to throw the talk up online so they could share it with nonprofits. So here's the talk for all y'all. Just remember to blame (or credit) Haidar Khazen!
